McDonald’s Japan has come under fire frequently over the past few months, and most recently for its rationing of fries after problems with a supplier. But maybe rationing the fries wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
Now netizens are slating McDonald’s after a JNN interview with the company revealed that last year, a customer actually found a human tooth in their fries. What’s more, McDonald’s have no idea how the tooth got in there, and don’t appear interested in finding out.

At McDonald’s, where there has been a spate of foreign objects found mixed into food, it was revealed in a JNN interview that now, the chain has received a report from a customer there had been a foreign object thought to be a “human tooth” mixed into the fries that came with their Big Mac set meal.
According to the customer who purchased the meal, they bought a Big Mac set meal last year on August 26, at a McDonald’s branch in Kawachinagano, Osaka Prefecture, and when they went to eat the fries that came with the meal, they found that there was a milky-colored foreign object in the fries. The customer contacted the branch and took the object back to the store so that the manager could investigate.
In a document from McDonald’s Japan received by the customer in September last year, the company apologized, admitting that investigations by an external organization had deemed the object to be a tooth fragment. They acknowledge that the fragment seemed to have had some dental work, and therefore accepted that it appeared to be a “human tooth”.
“At first it the manager of the branch came and merely apologized. Until the very end they barely mentioned how it might have got in there and what they were going to do about it. I have young children, and when I think that if a young child had eaten that and got it stuck in their throat, I’m really frightened. I want to make this public” (Customer who bought the meal).
The customer says that the explanation they received from the branch manager was that the foreign object had “been fried”, but in an interview with JNN, McDonald’s Japan stated that “The possibility that this got mixed in at the factory during the manufacturing process or in the branch itself is low; we have no idea how it got in there” but the company did confirm that the document regarding the tooth was issued by McDonald’s Japan.

And this is only a small detail, but when the manager first came to see me, he brought me a coupon for one free set meal as an apology.
Even though I returned the fries virtually uneaten and hadn’t even opened the seal on the box with the Big Mac they didn’t even give me my money back. I don’t know what manual they work from, but usually you’d at least return the cost of the meal.
