The recent terror attacks in Paris have rocked the world, prompting considerable debate in the US and across Europe.
We have yet to see a significant response from Japanese netizens in the usual forums like 2ch.net and Yahoo! Japan, although the Japanese-language version of the hashtag “Charlie Hebdo” did trend on Twitter. Other than tweeting in solidarity, perhaps netizens felt there was very little to say.
But now 2ch netizens have stepped up to give their opinions on the mass demonstration in central Paris that followed the terror attacks. And as usual, they have some controversial opinions.
From 2ch.net:
Everyone’s Talking About Paris…Demonstration March With Over 1 Million People
That’s amazing…
It would be pretty fucked up if there was a terror attack with all those people there like that…
This is the first time there have been such floods of people like that in France since the May Revolution in the Sixties…
Bet this is the kind of reaction that makes terrorists really happy.
There must be more than 1,000,000 people there, right?
It’s like something from Where’s Wally.
What would you do if you needed to go to the toilet?
Made me think of the final scene of Les Miserables.
Looks like a pilgrimage to Mecca.
Japan has things pretty bad, but the rest of the world has it worse.
Was this demo necessary?
Kinda feels it’s been a long time coming.
Demos in Japan are like school excursions…
I wonder if, after this terror attack, they will really be able to oppose immigration?
France is serious about this.
The only thing in Japan that comes close to this were the struggles over the US-Japan Security Treaty.
They’re all saying ‘what about freedom?’ but in fact this is just a gathering to kill muslims.
Honestly, this whole scene makes me shudder.
When they’re all gathering like that, it’s like saying ‘come on, terrorize us”…
They could take out over 100 people with a single bomb in a crowd like that.
War’s a-coming.
TEKKAMAKI(庭)@\(^o^)/:
I can’t help but feel that this is going to have the opposite effect.
I don’t understand the point in protesting against terrorism.
Eloquence is all very well, but in their hearts they’re insisting ‘out with the Muslims’, I reckon.
Amazing…I guess the French Revolution must have been like this.
The French love stuff like this.
