Head-on Collision: Student’s Sports Car Swerves Into Opposite Lane, 5 Injured, 1 Dead, Osaka
At around 11:50am on December 23, on national highway no.170 in Fukono, Daito, Osaka Prefecture, a sports car being driven by a male university student (20) swerved onto the opposite side of the road, and collided head-on with a passenger vehicle. Fukushima Naoko (41), a part-time employee who had been riding in the back of the car was killed, and a total of five other men and women suffered serious injuries. The Shijonawate division of Osaka Prefectural Police are working on the assumption that the university student made an error when driving, and reviewing a charge of death by negligent driving under the Car Driver’s Disciplinary Act.
According to Shijonawate Police, the incident took place on one side of a two-lane highway. When a traffic light at an intersection 50m north of the incident turned green, the sports car was witnessed accelerating rapidly. Apparently, the car had only just been delivered to the student that morning. The male passenger (20) who was also in the car suffered serious injuries, including a broken leg and neck.
Ms. Fukushima’s father (71) who had been driving the other car also suffered a broken leg. Ms. Fukushima’s eldest daughter (12), who had been sitting in the back of the car, and her eldest son (7), who had been sitting in the passenger seat (both elementary school students) suffered minor injuries. The Fukushima family were in the middle of heading out shopping.
