Netizens have been spooked out by the news that a 119 emergency call was recorded from an abandoned villa in Aomori Prefecture.

Although it could easily have been a prank call, many commenters can’t quite shake the feeling that there is something paranormal about the situation, particularly given that the location of the call was close to the spot where almost two hundred Japanese soldiers died in 1902 after being trapped in the Hakkoda Mountains during a blizzard…

From Yahoo! Japan:

Late Night Emergency 119 Call From Abandoned Villa; False Report? Or Could It Be….Hakkoda/ Aomori Prefecture

Was there an emergency 119 call from an abandoned villa late at night? On May 17 at just past midnight, there was a call to the fire services from a landline in a villa in Komagome Fukuzawa, Aomori City. However, the line was bad and emergency services could not hear a voice.

But it might have been that there was no time to lose. Aomori fire services HQ identified the place the call was transmitted from, and ten firemen arrived at the location just over forty minutes later. However, the surroundings were pitch dark, and there were no figures visible in the house. They were also unable to find any casualties.

The location of the incident was in an area where the Hakkoda Mountains Incident took place, and the area is covered by dense forest. The person responsible at the HQ control room told of his confusion: “It seemed that we got called for some reason, but we just don’t understand it”. Inevitably, the call is being treated as a false report.

The Hakkoda Mountains Incident that happened there was when 199 men out of 210 got trapped in the mountains and died.

中村梅刀:

When it’s something anticlimactic like this then it’s actually even scarier…I mean, great if it’s nothing, but if there’s nothing there then it might finally be a ghost, and just because of that I think this is scary.

はやかわ:

Oooooh the tension is mounting…..

麿(東京幻想倶楽部):

I just really like this kind of story.

Pretty frightening…

First off I admire the professionalism of those who went over there to help, because even if the person on the other side didn’t say anything, they had no proof that it was a prank call.

na_*****:

Good that there was no incident or accident there, but I applaud the rapid response of sending ten men there, plus the fact that they were prepared for the worst.

yaj*****:

It’s frightening so the police should investigate a bit ((;ω;))

werj****:

All the firemen who knew about the situation must have really got the chills.
I wonder who made the call in the end…?

msz*****:

Scaaary.
I wonder if they can’t treat this as an incident and try to get fingerprints from the telephone receiver and stuff?
Isn’t it better to identify the cause of it?

oom*****:

I mean, obviously the villa was locked, right?
If so, then this is frightening…
