Netizens have been amazed and amused at the story of two men who tried to buy things with a fake “million yen note” that looks very similar to a 10,000 yen note [approx. $98].
Although the pair succeeded in buying a banana and two canned drinks from an elderly shopkeeper for the princely sum of 350 yen [approx. $3.43] before escaping with the change, things took a turn for the worse when they tried the same trick on a drug dealer…
From Yomiuri Shimbun:
Drug Dealer Catches Out Criminals Buying Things With Fake “1,000,000 Yen Note”
On June 4, the Nishinari division of Osaka Police arrested temporary worker Iwata Masahiro (22), of Nishinari Ward, Osaka, (also accused of violating the Stimulants Control Law) and Yamada Takashi (28), of Suminoe Ward, Osaka, on suspicion of fraud, and announced that the case had been referred to prosecutors. The two are accused of purchasing goods with a play-money “1,000,000 yen note” that looked like a 10,000 yen note, and for fraudulently taking both the goods and the change for those goods.
According to police, on June 12 at around 7:50pm, Iwata and Yamada are accused of having handed over a fake 10,000 yen note to a male shopkeeper (86) in a Nishinari Ward store, and fraudulently taking a banana and two canned drinks, as well as 9,650 yen in change. The “1,000,000 yen note” the men used is sold as a sticker, and therefore it has “Example Bank Note 1,000,000 yen” written on it. After Iwata left the store, he attempted to buy amphetamines with another “1,000,000 yen note”, but he was caught out by the drug dealer and beaten up, and so is said to have escaped into a nearby fire station.

Buy amphetamines with fake 10,000 yen note → get caught out by dealer → get scared and leg it to fire station → grass up the fact that they got beaten up to firemen → pair get arrested.
This is a pretty funny incident.

Yup, Osaka got class. At this level, these guys are gonna change jobs to comedians or some other entertainment job, so you can really tell that no one is gonna be able to follow this act.

I really thought this was a horrible incident where they had deceived an elderly man and taken his money, but then LMAO at what happened after that.

Actually wanted to buy those stickers, but was a bit embarrassed because I’m an adult, so I never did. I think that the underneath was definitely blank, too…Guess there are both people who’ll try to fool people with these and people who are actually fooled by them.
