Tokyo Mayor Masuzoe Yoichi has been at the centre of an online controversy this week after he suggested that “90% of Tokyoites like Korea” during a meeting with South Korean President, Park Geun Hye.
When netizens caught wind of his supposedly outlandish statement, they set about proving him wrong, and are now calling for his de-election. Unsurprisingly, many of the top comments on the topic demonstrate typically right-wing, anti-Korean sentiments that many associate with the netouyo.
Given that the total number of eligible voters in the last election was 10.8 million, and that 1/3 of these would have to sign a petition calling for de-election, are these irate netizens biting off more than they can chew?

Online Movement Calling For Tokyo Mayor Masuzoe Yoichi To Be De-Elected, Demonstrations Planned
The Mayor of Tokyo, Masuzoe Yochi, visited South Korea and met with Park Geun Hye. But now City Hall has been flooded with complaints because of Masuzoe’s seemingly grovelling attitude during the meeting, and because he said something to the effect that “90% of Tokyo citizens like South Korea” when President Park brought up the historical issues between the two nations. Furthermore, there has also been a reaction to Masuzoe sticking his nose into foreign diplomacy, despite the fact that he is not a Diet member.
To that end, an online movement calling for Masuzoe to be de-elected has started online. Should this happen, then a local referendum will be held.
The hashtag “#De-electTokyoMayorMasuzoe” has appeared on Twitter, with opinions being posted such as “I think people will gather, I hope they do…Because Masuzoe himself does things that damage Japan’s national interests, there is a reason for anyone Japanese to be angry with him, not just people who live in Tokyo”.
Moreover, it was announced that on August 10 from 4pm, a “De-Elect Tokyo Mayor Masuzoe Demo” (provisional) was to be held by the “Association Of Citizens Against Allowing The Invasion Of Japan”.

I thought he was strange because without warning that bastard does stuff like securing premises for Korean schools, giving subway art as a present to the City of Seoul, sucking up to them, brown-nosing. But you know from the start I thought there was something weird about him, so now I kinda feel I was right. Because all along he was pro-Korea. If they don’t de-elect him soon, then all of Tokyo’s resources are gonna be siphoned off to the gooks.

Takes a lot of energy to start a movement for de-election, but Masuzoe and the Tokyo chapter of the LDP should both be taking the fact that the impetus for this has come from citizens of Tokyo themselves very seriously. Because anti-Korean sentiment is not something that is being incited by the “far-right Abe Administration”, ultimately it’s something that’s arisen spontaneously from the people of this country. And as for sensitive diplomatic issues, they’re not something that someone who is merely the head of a local autonomous region should be sticking his nose into whenever he pleases.
マランビジーさん:
Seems like the voices of Tokyo’s citizens aren’t reaching the Mayor. It’s terrifying to think that he really believes this number of 90%. I wonder if he’s an idiot? Pisses me off.
はせっちさん:
First and foremost, Tokyo is the capital of Japan. It’s unbelievable that such an incompetent traitor could be mayor. Katayama Satsuki [Masuzoe’s ex-wife, an LDP politician] is one hundred times more capable than Masuzoe is.
にくねーむさん:
I guess it’s impossible to have him de-elected, but if they gather 100000 signatures, and demonstrations where they crowd before City Hall, then the City Council will give him the sack. Because they don’t have a bunch of dogged supporters like you see in national politics. You realise with recent series of events that there are a lot of nobodys around. And the fear of the power of everyone moving for national interests is a fear that “influence-peddling” has no effect against. I bet the zainichi will say “Oh it’s the netouyo though. But really what that lot want to say is, “It’s the Japanese people”.
pupさん:
We don’t need a Mayor who is at the same level as Hatoyama. Politicians who say we should try to give foreigners the vote because Japan’s population is in decline are dangerous. What’s in their hearts comes out in their behavior, they’re vulgar and pathetic.
じゅんさん:
Gonna sever relations with them for sure.
どとれさん:
Anti-Japan Japanese people are the lowest scum of all. We need to start a movement where we flip them the bird as soon as we see one of them.
たけおさん:
Would have been better if we’d elected Tamogami before this bastard had a chance to mess up σ(^_^;). Even though we have more doubts about him when it comes to money than we did with the previous mayor. We were too slow to realise.
aero (指圧の心・母心www)さん:
No one would care if the Mayor had said that he personally liked Korea, but I’m really doubtful of the mental state of someone who would tell a pack of lies to Korea like that. I guess it’s only reasonable that there’s a movement to de-elect him.

Well that baldy is blabbing on about how “90% of Tokyo’s citizens love Korea”, so the people doing the petitions should aim for over 10%.

If they collect 1/3 of the signatures of eligible voters, then they can hold a local referendum to see if he’ll be de-elected. How many 1000000s of people are the total population of eligible voters in Tokyo?
