TV personality Yaguchi Mari’s personal life has been tumultuous over the past few weeks, and it’s all been squarely in the public eye. On May 21, Josei Seven magazine revealed that she had separated from actor husband Nakamura Masaya after he allegedly caught her in bed with a model.
Starting on May 24, she has also been absent from her weekly live TV appearances, citing poor health. However, the public has been extremely critical, seeing her absence as an attempt to escape judgment from both the media and her fans.
On May 30, the drama reached its peak when Yaguchi and Nakamura announced that they have filed for divorce. Netizens are wholly unsurprised, and continue to criticize Yaguchi for her actions as she comes under public scrutiny for her every move.

On May 30, TV personality Yaguchi Mari (30) and actor Nakamura Masaya (27) filed their divorce papers at a public office in downtown Tokyo. That same day, the couple’s PR firm announced the divorce to the media through a mass fax.
The announcement stated, “We’d like to once again extend our apologies here to everyone involved, as well as to all our fans, for the trouble and concern you have taken on our behalf.” The specific reasons for the divorce weren’t made clear, but the announcement did say, “We’ve discussed this countless times before finally arriving at this decision, but we’ve reached the conclusion that we should focus on our futures and go our separate ways. From now on, we’ll be living our respective lives, but we humbly ask that you continue to watch over us warmly even after this.”
The two have said they have no plans to give interviews about their divorce.
Yaguchi and Nakamura began their relationship in 2010, when they met through a mutual friend. They submitted their marriage registration on May 22, 2011, and held a ceremony and reception on the same date in 2012. They became known as the “uneven couple” due to their 47.5 cm difference in height. However, their separation was reported in a weekly magazine on May 16 of this year, and soon after another weekly magazine reported that Yaguchi was suspected of adultery. Yaguchi has been absent from her regular live TV appearance due to poor health starting May 24.
