Is Tokyo’s ‘Penguin Bar’ The Ideal Date Spot?

Tokyo is well-known for its variety of innovative bars. There is the monk bar, the vibrator bar, and even a canned food bar.

In recent months, a new addition has appeared — a penguin bar — which has been touted on social media site Togech.jp, as the “ideal date spot”. The　Penguin Bar, located in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district, features penguins swimming in tanks as guests enjoy drinks and food.

And the bar seems to be a hit with netizens, who are keen to check it out.

The other day was was browsing online, when I came across a post that made me furious. The title was something like “First Date At Gyoza no Osho [a chain restaurant] www Really Unbelievable wwww”.

Hey!! Bitch!! What the hell’s wrong with having a first date at Gyoza no Osho, asshole?

She had a face like a messed-up plate of chahan!! Want me to coat you in an egg glaze and fry you nice and crispy in sesame oil, huh!? Grrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

That’s kind of how it went down, I totally lost it. But you know, when I asked girls around me, they were all like “Well, if you go to Osho then you’re going to be worried about smelling of garlic and stuff, so it’s a no-go for a first date”. So with a glass of bourbon in one hand, and my hair in a Mohican, I was about to head West.

Ah! I want to be popular with girls! No, seriously.

And at that moment, I found a tweet that piqued my interest on Twitter.

‘Cos if girls love anything, it’s animals. Ideal for inviting a girl to on a date! And plus it’s a bar!

Well, chances are pretty high that this would actually get me punched, I reckon, but let’s put my sick fantasies aside for a minute, and get ourselves down to the penguin bar to check it out!!

Ta-daa!! And here we are, at Ikebukuro’s penguin bar.

Even from the sign outside the bar, they’re really going for the penguin theme.

Oh, by the way, I came alone.

Wow…!! I’d imagined it to be pretty casual, but the interior is stylish and somewhat relaxed. Seems like the kind of place girls would go for…!!

And more than anything, in a water tank deep inside the bar, there is a penguin!!

Woah! It’s a penguin!!

Sadly, it seems that you can’t touch the penguin, but on Twitter the reaction from girls has been great: “Where is the bar?” “I wanna go there!!”

Girls are picky about the details, and in the glasses of people who are drinking something that looks like whiskey, there are those perfectly round ice cubes that I’ve only ever seen in TV dramas. So stylish!! Professional !!!!

This might finally be the best ever place for a date!!

If you order a frozen draft beer, the total, include the bar charge, is 1,300 yen [approx. $13].

They also have a food menu that includes steak, so you can even have a decent meal there. I reckon it would be a great place to take that girl you’ve been thinking about.

How about giving it a try, everyone?

Well, I don’t even have a girl to ask, so…
